It’s becoming something of a tradition. We started the 2017/18 season by asking our supporters to predict the outcome of our -then- three Divisions. How did they do? Well, if we’re honest, fairly badly!
At the start of the season which will end with the Premier Super Playoff Final on Saturday, we asked again- only now we had four divisions to worry about. So, it’s time to see whether our supporters knew their onions, or whether their predictions would end up causing us tears- probably of laughter. Next, let’s look at the North Division.
Let’s start with the positives. Actually, you did remarkably well!
Our prediction guru’s managed to pick out four of the top five. Rather like that old Morecambe and Wise sketch, you got (nearly) all of the right clubs, just not necessarily in the right order! You placed Heybridge Swifts in first place- not surprisingly after their exploits last year- whilst you put champions Bowers & Pitsea in third, third placed Maldon & Tiptree in fourth, and second placed Aveley in fifth. You missed out on Coggeshall Town, who you placed 8th, and you expected last season’s beaten Playoff Finalists Canvey Island would finish in second place. To be fair, very few people would have expected Canvey to finish ninth, so there’s no blame attached there!
Bostik North Predicted Table 2018-19
You were exactly right when you suggested that Romford would finish second bottom, but you badly underestimated the abilities of Great Wakering Rovers, who of course finished 15th, not last! You placed Bury Town in seventh and they came sixth, were only two places out with AFC Sudbury, only one place out when it came to Basildon United- although when they started the season like an express train you must have worried a little- and only one place out with your prediction for Soham Town Rangers.
You were also just one place out when predicting the finishing place of Felixstowe and Walton United, who did one place better than you thought they would.
So, where did you go wrong?
In truth, you weren’t far wrong apart from, as we’ve mentioned, with the Seed Growers- and with Dereham Town, who you expected to have a better season than they managed. Another side who did better than you expected were Grays Athletic, Jim Cooper lifting them to seventh rather than your predicted eleventh, whilst Witham Town’s last day escape wasn’t expected, as you put them in fourteenth place.

So, take a look at your predicted table, and the actual table- which we’ve borrowed from those lovely folk at the Non League Paper- and see do some comparing and contrasting. Thanks to all who took part- and if you’d like to be involved next season, please get in touch via email@example.com and we’ll get back to you once we know who will be in our four divisions.
