Hayes hammer Saints- and ten man Millers hold on to draw

By Ian Townsend

We also had a marvellous County Cup win for Tonbridge. It's last night's round up.

Hayes and United dropped points when Ashford Town got a late equaliser on Saturday, but normal service was resumed last night as they walloped Chalfont St Peter to go nine points clear at the top of the South Central Division. They got off to the quickest possible start, and indeed were 4-0 up inside half an hour- Lee Barney, Scott Donnelly (2) and Scott Bridges ensuring that the last hour of the match was a procession. They found a fifth goal through half time substitute Ash Nzala, and although Rhys Rabess got one back for the home side that was all the Saints had to show for ninety difficult minutes. The game was delayed just before the end after the floodlights failed, but they were soon back on, perhaps powered by the electricity produced by the visitors- who also have a game in hand over their promotion rivals.

In the North Division, Aveley could have gone second with victory over Barking, but they got only a point- and they had centre half Harry Gibbs to thank for that, as he spent the last twenty five minutes playing in goal after the sending off of keeper David Hughes.

Abs Seymour opened the score for Barking, who did the double over the Parkside favourites last season and patently weren't overawed by their high-flying hosts, before Thomas Richardson grabbed an equaliser midway through the first half. Chances came and went at both ends before Hughes received his marching orders for a foul on Seymour, and Gibbs was forced to save from Seymour and Darelle Russell as the visitors looked to take advantage.

Aveley are third, six points behind leaders Bowers & Pitsea. Barking move up to twelfth.

Tonbridge Angels defeated National League Ebsfleet United 2-0 in the Quarter Final of the Kent Senior Cup, whilst Egham Town fell 5-0 at home to Woking in the Surrey version.
