Horsham yesterday announced four new signings- as they prepare not only for the opening of their new ground but for life as a Premier Division club. Two of them arrive from Burgess Hill, another is also a Sussex favourite, and the fourth is a former Cray Wanderers midfielder who ended last season with the other Cray- our South East new boys Cray Valley PM- as they tried to lift the FA Vase at Wembley.
First up is a new last line of defence, Josh James moving over from the Hillians. Josh, you might recall, was Hill's keeper when they were promoted from the South Division as runaway champions, but he's decided he doesn't want another Step Four campaign and will instead remain in the Premier Division. He was with the Hornets for a short while in 2017.
Jared Rance also moves over from the Green Elephants Stadium, but of course first came to prominence at Worthing, where he made fifteen starts in 2017/18. Alongside him at Woodside Road during that campaign was Zack Newton, and the two will team up again next season as the forward moves over from Welling United. He only moved to Kent from the Mackerel Men last summer, but spent some of the season back at Woodside Road on loan and has now decided to return to Sussex on a permanent basis.
Finally, that FA Vase finalist is Lea Dawson, but you're most likely to remember him as a mainstay of the Cray Wanderers midfield as they narrowly missed out on promotion in 2018.
