Charity begins at...your local football club: Update 2

By Ian Townsend

Many of our clubs are crowdfunding to help them through the crisis. Here is how you can help.

Last month we ran an article linking to those clubs who had launched charity appeals to help them deal with ongoing costs during the coronavirus crisis. We thought we'd update you on who is doing what, and add a few that have begun or been brought to our attention since the original article was published.

In the Premier Division, Folkestone Invicta have only two hundred and forty pounds of their five thousand pound target still to raise. Hats off to those who have donated. Their appeal site is here.

Merstham had a three thousand pound target, and are already up to three thousand, five hundred and thirty pounds. But they haven't stopped yet, and their fund raising site can be found here.

Leatherhead had raised three thousand, three hundred and fifty six pounds on May 2nd, and that's probably gone up since then. You can find out how to donate here.

Bishop's Stortford came late to the fundraising party, but have so far raised almost half of their three thousand pound target. Help them out by heading here.

Into the North Division, Cambridge City were up to fifteen hundred pounds a month ago. You can donate by Paypal, bank transfer or cheque, and you can find out how to do that here.

South Central side South Park have even had a number of donations from supporters of former FA Trophy opponents Tranmere Rovers, and have smashed their three thousand pound target- at last count they were up to four thousand and eighty pounds. They've incentivised donations by offering everybody who makes a donation of at least £10 the chance to be entered into a draw to win a signed print commemorating either Sir Geoff Hurst’s 1966 World Cup Final hat trick or Martin Peters World Cup Final goal- whilst all donations of at least £50 will be entered into a draw for a replica of a 1966 World Cup Final Shirt signed by either Sir Geoff Hurst or Gordon Banks. Find out more here.

Tooting and Mitcham United have decided that donations come with prizes. Head here to find out more- they've made almost eight thousand pounds so far.

Chipstead are trying to raise two thousand five hundred pounds towards 'Reinstatement of our 5 pitches and training area for all ages for next season, Improve facilities in the closed season for the 450+ visitors to our ground each week, Purchase equipment for next seasons new teams.' They've already exceeded the total required, but would still be glad of your help- so you can add to the total here.

Hanwell Town are trying to raise funds to cover any shortfall and improve the club's facilities. They set a modest target of £1500 and have already exceeded that. Everyone who donates more than ten pounds goes into a draw to win a 'Hanwell Town Bundle'- which includes a new scarf and hat, a season ticket, and a game of your choice with hospitality, plus much more, as they always say at the end of such an advertisement. Head here to find out more.

Finally, the South East Division. Ashford United have set a rather ambitious target and have raised thirteen hundred and eighty five pounds so far. You can add to that by heading here.

Whyteleafe have already raised four thousand, four hundred and thirty pounds thanks to their generous supporters, and you can add to that by heading here.

Cray Valley PM have raised around a quarter of their fundraising target- and you can get a 'free' programme reviewing the season if you donate more than seven quid. See more here. if you'd like a programme hit the contact button on the Go Fund Me page or email Frank May on [email protected]

Sittingbourne FC are giving a free match ticket to local NHS staff for every one hundred pounds raised, and so far they'll have to donate sixty five tickets. Their total is £6,575, and they've now closed their appeal down.

Faversham Town have raised more than fifteen hundred pounds of their three thousand pound target. Head here to help.

Ramsgate have so far raised two thousand seven hundred pounds. You can help the Rams butt their way through the crisis by donating here.

Whitstable Town are asking for help 'to maintain the pitch and the ground as well as continuing to build grass roots football opportunities,' and have so far made two thousand eight hundred and eighty five pounds of their five thousand pound target. You can add to that total here.

Finally, the Herne Bay Supporters Association have so far raised more than sixteen hundred pounds for their club. You can add to that by heading here.

Thanks to all who have donated. If your club is also running an appeal and it isn't mentioned here, please email Ian so that it can be added.
